Kazakhstan is a landlocked country in Central Asia with a coastline along the Caspian Sea. In recent times, however, the sale of ships in Kazakhstan has declined, due to a number of factors, including increasing competition from neighboring countries, as well as the global economic crisis.

In 2009, domestic sales of vessels in Kazakhstan totaled approximately USD 3.2 million. This was a significant decrease from the previous year, when the country had reported ship sales of USD 8.5 million. This decline was largely attributed to the global economic downturn, as well as increased competition from Russia, Ukraine, and other countries in the region.
