Ships for Sale in Pakistan, produce, trend

The maritime economy in Pakistan is an integral component of the domestic and global economy, with famed ports of Karachi and Gwadar playing an important role in international trade. This has resulted in an increasing number of vessels, including cargo ships, container ships, tugs, and fisheries vessels, being built and/or sold in Pakistan. An analysis of recent sales activity reveals a noticeable trend in the purchasing of vessels for sale in Pakistan.

Over the last five years, there has been a significant rise in the total number of vessels purchased from shipyards in Pakistan. According to the National Shipping Corporation of Pakistan (NSCOP), the number of vessels sold from 2012-2017 has increased from 6,094 to 8,872, an increase of 46%. During this period, cargo ships made up the majority of vessels sold, comprising an average of 78% of total vessels sold. Other vessels sold have included container ships, tugs, offshore vessels, and passenger vessels.

The shipbuilding industry in the country is dominated by the construction and sale of cargo ships. The leading shipbuilding company in the country is Pakistan Shipbuilders (PSB), which has continued to lead the market in terms of sales and production of vessels. Their total output in 2017 was 4,078 vessels, and their share of the total vessels sold was estimated to be close to 70%.

There has also been an increase in the number of shipyards in the country. There are now thirteen shipyards, including PSB's Karachi Shipyard, located within Pakistan that are capable of constructing vessels of various types. Moreover, the government has been increasing its support for the shipbuilding industry, evidenced by a recent announcement by the Prime Minister of Pakistan to assist in the development of local shipyards.

The number of vessels for sale in Pakistan is expected to continue its upward trend in the coming years. With the government increasing its support for the shipbuilding industry, and existing shipyards expanding their capabilities and capacities, it is likely that the total number of vessels sold will continue to grow in the coming years. This could lead to more international trade activity through the ports of Karachi and Gwadar, resulting in increased economic growth in the region.
