Ships for Sale in Netherlands, produce, trend

The maritime industry in the Netherlands is highly developed, and the sale of vessels/ships has been a key component of this sector’s success since ancient times. According to the State of the Dutch Maritime Industry Report from 2012, the Netherlands is home to over 7,000 merchant ships and passenger vessels, making it one of the world’s largest shipbuilding nations in terms of vessel numbers. In addition, the vast majority of these vessels are built locally in the Netherlands, making it a particularly important nation in the international maritime market.

In terms of the sale of vessels/ships, the number of such transactions in the Netherlands has seen significant growth over the past decade. According to the Dutch Maritime Authority, over 600 vessels/ships were sold in the Netherlands in 2012, a dramatic increase compared to just under 100 vessels/ships sold in 2002. This growth has been driven by both domestic and foreign buyers, with the two largest groups of buyers being private companies and the government.

In terms of the ships put on the market in 2012, a majority (60%) were merchant vessels such as cargo/freight ships and tankers. These vessels are typically used for transportation of goods and materials, as well as for military operations. The remaining 40% of vessels sold were passenger ships such as ferries and cruise liners, which are primarily used for recreational activities.

The majority of vessels/ships sold in the Netherlands in 2012 were manufactured in Dutch shipyards. However, in recent years there has been a slight increase in the number of vessels/ships sourced from other European countries. This increase is largely attributed to the improvements that have been made to Dutch shipbuilding regulations, as these regulations have made it easier for foreign vessels to enter into the Dutch market.

The trend in the sale of vessels/ships in the Netherlands over the past decade has been largely positive, with significant increases in both the number of vessels/ships sold, as well as the variety of vessels/ships that are made available. This trend is expected to continue as more and more companies move to take advantage of the increasingly favorable regulations that have been put in place by the Dutch Maritime Authority.
